Kate Stemler-Sinclair and Don Sinclair were still fiancées when they first learned about the Keswick (pronounced Kezzick) neighbourhood. A part of the community of Windermere, Keswick lies at the end of Ellerslie Road with the North Saskatchewan River Valley winding along its western edge. And as some of the last riverfront and ravine real estate in the southwest, Kate and Don felt lucky that they were able to find something so perfect.
One of primary features that the couple was looking for was privacy but also a place where they felt like a part of a community. They wanted a home where they could live quietly and build a family. Kate said, “I wanted to live in a place that had a community and neighbours, while Don wanted something quieter like an acreage.” And Keswick offered both. The rural atmosphere of the neighbourhood plus its close proximity to places like Currents of Windermere and main routes like Anthony Henday Drive means the couple gets to enjoy the best of both worlds.
And while they aren't as close to the city's downtown area, Kate points out that, “...because this is a new area, you have an opportunity to create your own community.” Kate explained that she has persuaded several friends to relocate to Keswick. This has helped build the community they were looking for and when they come home from work, they can now come home to a community of friends.
Keswick isn't like other neighbourhoods that the couple visited. It offered multiple sizes and styles so they were able to pick something that fit both their tastes. And because they were one of the first in the community, they had their selection of lots. Kate describes the lot saying, “It’s quiet and private because it backs onto a pond. We have one neighbour beside us and green space across the street.” They are appreciative of MCL Land Developments for making such an attractive family friendly neighbourhood.
Living in Keswick gives one the feeling of living in an English village. The architecture and design has been inspired by England’s Lake District and features Old World styles. You'll see French, Tudor, and English Country influenced architecture as you walk or drive through the community. Built to compliment the nature around it, Keswick has an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. “We’re also close to the river valley, so we really are surrounded by nature. Deer wander through and the ponds are full of birds,” Kate described.
The couple worked with Kimberly Homes to design and build their 2,450 square foot walkout home. Kate and Don chose the company because of their reputation for high standards, attention to detail, and customer service. Kate explains that, “We started out with a Kimberley floor plan, but quickly customized.” Kimberly worked with the Sinclairs and customized the floor plan until the home was exactly as they wanted it. They designed the house with an open concept in mind, removing walls, making the kitchen bigger, and moving the master suite to the rear so that it offers an open view of the pond. The result was their dream home in their dream neighbourhood.
Both Kate and Don have their favourite parts about their new home. Don loves entertaining guests and enjoys time in the kitchen cooking. The customized kitchen is large enough for him to do everything he wants to do and features a large gas stove. An island in the centre of the kitchen is beautifully topped with a single slab of granite. Kate loves the luxury master bath. It features a freestanding soaker tub and was placed so that she could look out over their pond while relaxing.
Kate and Don moved into their new neighbourhood and home in April of 2014 and married that September. With their dream home and a community of friends, they couldn't be happier. Kate adds, “It’s nice to come from a long work day and simply relax.”
Home buyers will find many options in Keswick that range in price. Single-family houses with a lot and GST begin at $550,000. Prices start at $350,000 and $360,000 for townhouses and duplexes respectively. Estate homes start at $850,000.
